Kempton Park is one of the nation’s best dual-purpose racecourses, hosting high-quality Flat and jumps racing year round. The King George VI Chase, which takes place annually on Boxing Day, is Kempton’s most well-known race. It is now second only to the Cheltenham Gold Cup as the most prestigious race in the National Hunt season. With five victories, Kauto Star is the most successful horse in the race. The Grade 1 Feltham Novices Chase, which was won by Coneygree in 2014, is also held on the same day. One of Kempton’s main Flat races is the Sirenia Stakes.

FLAT: Kempton is a polytrack, right-handed oval course with two loops. The sharp inner circuit, which is used for races that are between five and ten furlongs long and has a finishing straight that is just under two furlongs long, favors the quick, handy type, especially over the minimum trip. The outer course’s turn is more sweeping, and the straight is about three furlongs long, making the test more even. There is a relatively short run to the first bend over both five and six furlongs.

NATIONAL SEARCH: Flat, right hand. Very fair with fences that aren’t too hard, and the course seems to have stayed the same since the all-weather circuit opened. On soft or heavy going, it could be a much harder test of stamina than expected.
